3. IFLA-Presidential Meeting 2009
Theme
Access to Knowledge: Networking Libraries Preparing and providing digital information does not depend on technical equipment alone, it is also influenced by social, moral and political values and norms. The communication and the use of digital information also call for the creation of networks and infrastructures on a global level. The process of transforming digital information into meaningful knowledge therefore relies on building alliances on all kinds of levels and in all kinds of areas. By providing examples, the relationship of digital knowledge and cultural heritage as well as the influence on higher education will be discussed. International contributors from libraries, academia and politics and various Islamic countries will focus on the role of libraries within the network of research, education, society and state. Event Partners Event partners are the Federal Foreign Office, the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), the Robert Bosch Foundation, the Goethe-Institut as well as the Library and Information in Germany (BID), Federal Union of German Library and Information Associations. Conference language Simultaneous interpretation into German, English, Arabic will be provided. Date The two-day conference will be held on February 19th/20th 2009 Venue Federal Foreign Office, Werderscher Markt 1, 10117 Berlin How to get to the location. Location plan Conference fees Before February 10, 2009 (Registration and conference fee transfered): Deadline of registration: February 10, 2009 The registration fee covers conference fee, coffee breaks, lunch snacks and the evening reception. Travel costs and accommodation have to be paid by the participants themselves. Notification of cancellation and refund requests must be submitted before February 1, 2009. The fee for cancellations is Euro 10. For cancellations after February 1, 2009 no refunds will be given. The transfering of the registration is possible without any expenses. The registration period ended February 10 – we are sorry, but we may not accept further registrations. Events All participants are invited to a reception at the Central and Regional Library in Berlin on Thursday at 19:00. A library and archive visit of the Federal Foreign Office will be offered after closing the meeting on Friday afternoon.
